Sad sign

These ghost bikes are everywhere these days. This one has a sign in memory of a 75-year-old woman who had a fatal accident at this intersection on 1 October 2015. Very sad. For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.

  1. One sees them here as well. The city is trying to get them removed after a certain time- there's one that's been in place for three or four years now, it seems, and has become visual clutter.

  2. I've seen many memorials, but never one like this.

  3. I have seen these bikes across Iowa. Always sad to see them as it means a bicycle rider was killed by a motorist at this location.

  4. There must be more to this story. Was she an important person in the community? Or maybe just one of these bikes was in her memory and the other bikes memorialize other folks? Interesting and yes, sad.

  5. It is so sad to see them. There is one I pass regularly that has been there for a few years now and the family of the cyclist decorates it for birthdays etc.

  6. I've often wondered who donates these bikes.

  7. Let them be signs of compassion and reminders to be safe always!

  9. Ghost bikes. Bicyclists are pretty defenseless when they encounter a careless auto driver.

  11. Sad indeed. In Holland the white bike was in the sixties the free bike project of the Provo movement were everybody could use the white bikes who had no lock and could put parked everywhere.

  16. They are here too. I guess they serve as a reminder to be careful.

  17. These are unfortunately common, both in Florida and New England.

  21. Oh, that is sad! Here informal memorials became a bit of a litter problem so the state highway department created a standard sign telling us to drive safely in memory of whoever.
